Use
Heparin is used as an Anticoagulant (Blood Thinner).
Specifically it is used to treat and prevent Deep Vein Thrombosis (formation of a Blood Clot within a deep vein),
Pulmonary Embolism (blood clots that travel to the lungs from the legs or, rarely, other parts of the body),
and Arterial Thromboembolism.
It is also used in the treatment of Heart Attacks and Unstable Angina.
Common side effects
Include Bleeding, pain at the Injection Site, and Low Blood platelets.
Precaution
Greater care is needed in those with poor kidney function.
